A “Wicked” Morning Aboard BART

Riding BART will be a wicked experience Thursday morning. And not because of the trains.

Fifty-thousand BART customers will receive coupon cards and other goodies from the musical "Wicked" in the transit agency's first "Rider Appreciation Day" of the new decade.

BART says its first 50,000 riders will receive a coupon with $30 in savings on tickets to "Wicked," which is now playing an open-ended  engagement at San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre.

Each coupon will be wrapped around an exclusive music download card offering several of the musical's hits for free.

BART and "Wicked" staff members will also be handing out other "Wicked" paraphernalia including hand sanitizers, lip balm, t-shirts, hats and CDs.

The giveaways will be distributed from 6 to 9 a.m. today at the City Center/12th Street station in Oakland and the Civic Center, Embarcadero,  Montgomery Street and Powell Street stations in San Francisco.

BART officials say the giveaway won't cost riders or taxpayers anything because "Wicked" is donating the items, which are valued at an estimated $1.5 million.
