East Bay residents looking to adopt a cat or dog can do so at a reduced cost Thursday as a part of Contra Costa Animal Services' "Big Love" Valentine's Day special.

Dogs over 25 pounds and cats over 5 pounds will be available for a fee of just $25.

Typical adoption fees range from $86 to $264, according to a statement issued Wednesday by Contra Costa Animal Services spokesman Steve Burdo.

"In the spirit of Valentine's Day, we wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to find love this year," Burdo said.

Interested adopters can visit both the county's shelters at 4800 Imhoff Place in Martinez or 910 San Pablo Ave. in Pinole.

Those who miss their chance Thursday can try again Feb. 28, when adoption fees will once again be reduced to $25.
