After-School Worker Charged With Lewd Acts

An after-school child care aide was arrested Friday for allegedly kissing and inappropriately touching an elementary school girl in San Mateo earlier this month, police and school district officials said today.

Eric Michael Renz, 20, was booked into San Mateo County Jail on charges of committing lewd acts on a child under 14 and child annoyance, according to a joint press release issued by San Mateo police and the San Mateo-Foster City School District.

Renz is accused of befriending and violating the elementary school girl late on the afternoon of Oct. 18 at Horrall Elementary School, located at 949 Ocean View Ave. in the city's Shoreview area.

Renz was taken into custody at his Millbrae home without incident on Friday, San Mateo police Sgt. Dave Norris said.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Renz was being held on $100,000 bail but was released from jail at 11:48 p.m. Friday after posting bail. Renz will be arraigned on Dec. 5 at 9 a.m., Wagstaffe said.

The report has been handed over the district attorney's office, he said.

Police and the school district are working together to determine if there are any additional victims.

Anyone who might have information about this incident or another involving Renz is asked to contact the SMPD Investigations Unit at (650) 522-7650.
