A domestic violence suspect was shot early Monday after coming at sheriff's deputies with a machete in unincorporated Alameda County, officials said.

At 1:47 a.m. deputies went to a home in the 22300 block of Princeton Street in unincorporated Hayward after someone called to report domestic violence.

A person said she was assaulted by her husband who deputies found on a rear patio of the home, according to CHP officials.

The husband took a machete from his waistband and tried to attack the deputies.

One deputy fired at the suspect, hitting him.

Deputies arrested the suspect and he was taken to a hospital where he is expected to survive.
