Alert Neighbors Help San Jose Police Nab Burglary Suspects

San Jose police are working to determine if three burglary suspects arrested Thursday are responsible for a rash of crimes reported in the Evergreen area.

The suspects were arrested Thursday after a woman and her son noticed suspicious people in a blue sedan scoping the neighborhood out.

"I know who lives there and I know for a fact I've never seen these two kids before," said the woman, who did not want to be identified.

The woman's son alerted her that the suspicious people returned and entered the home.

Police swarmed the area after the woman called 911 to report a possible burglary. Officers arrested one suspect outside the home who was acting as a lookout. The two other suspects inside the house took off running, but were eventually found by a police K-9.

"This area is pretty hard hit," Sgt. Greg Barth said, adding that five burglaries were reported in the area on Thursday. "And the burglars are very brazen."

Barth said the suspects arrested were sophisticated in their approach to the suspected burglary.

"They had lookouts," he said. "They had communication devices."

Burglaries in San Jose have been steadily increasing over recent years. In 2010, there were fewer than 4,000 burglaries, but just last year there were more than 5,000 burglaries reported.

The city in 2014 is on pace to exceed last year's number of burglaries.
