Alice Walker to Speak Friday at First Congregational Church in Oakland

Internationally acclaimed author Alice Walker will speak Friday evening in Oakland, organizers said.

Walker will speak at 7:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church at 2501 Harrison St. near Whole Foods. Doors open at 7 p.m., followed by an opening drum call.

Walker won both the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1983 and the National Book Award for the novel "The Color Purple."

Walker is the author of seven novels, four short story collections and four children's books, as well as essays and poetry.
