Federal prosecutors say a Northern California man convicted of shooting a police officer has been sentenced to 33 years in prison.
U.S. Attorney Brian Stretch says a federal judge on Wednesday sentenced 27-year-old Damion McDaniel in the 2013 shooting of an Oakland police officer.
Stretch says the officer had gone to an apartment complex to investigate the shooting of an alleged gang member when McDaniel and two other gang members attacked him. The officer was struck in the head and after he refused to give up his weapon, McDaniel shot him in the forearm.
Prosecutors say a day earlier McDaniel and three other gang members from Oakland’s Seminary neighborhood opened fire on a rival gang member standing at a bus stop. One of the gang members then ran up to the victim and shot him in the head. The man survived.
