Amazon Buys SF-Based “Yelp For Books” Goodreads

Goodreads has 16 million potential customers for Amazon.

San Francisco-based book-rating web site, Goodreads, is now in the hands of Amazon.com.

The book seller, which is locked in endless sales battles with retailers of other kinds, will acquire a "community of bibliophiles primed to buy and recommend books" with the purchase, according to Reuters.

The buy will help Amazon as it continues to attract customers to its Kindle service as well as its more-traditional sales model.

Goodreads has 16 million members and has 23 million reviews on its site, Reuters reported. In other words, that's a lot of potential customers.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
