Amazon Debuts Dash Buttons for Ordering Household Items

Amazon is trying to leap off your computer and deeper into your home.

In hopes that customers will start relying on Amazon to purchase common household items such as laundry detergent and paper towels, the company has created “Dash Buttons” -- physical buttons that order single products with one push.

Dash Buttons cost $4.99 for Amazon Prime members and are currently available for items such as Huggies diapers, Gillette razors, and Kraft macaroni and cheese.

TechCrunch initially thought the product was an April Fools joke when it was announced on March 31. The publication has since had a chance to test the product out, finding prices to be high (“$30 for 12 paper towel rolls. . . I guess convenience is expensive?”) and the requirement to connect the Dash Button to your home WiFi network "annoying."
