Second Car in Canal Not Connected to Amber Alert

Divers returned to the delta water canal Thursday, to search for a sunken vehicle that may have been connected to a missing child's case out of the Central Valley.  The car was removed around 10:30 a.m. and found to be a Saturn and not a Corolla, so it has no connection to the statewide Amber Alert case.

Officials told reporters they feared a 4-year-old boy kidnapped in Patterson on Tuesday was inside the submerged car.

The young boy, Juliani Cardenas, was snatched Tuesday afternoon directly from his grandmother's arms.

Police have been searching across state for Juliani and his alleged kidnapper, 27-year-old Jose Rodriguez. Rodriguez is the ex-boyfriend of the child's mother and helped raise him since he was an infant.

Investigators earlier said Rodriguez could be headed toward San Jose, the Stockton area or Sacramento.

Divers have now removed two vehicles from the canal after a worker came forward to report that he saw a car matching the description of one driven by Rodriguez plunge into the water shortly after the abduction took place.

The California Highway Patrol said Cardenas is 3 feet 6 inches tall and was last seen wearing a light blue fleece sweatshirt, black sweatpants and black Spider-man shoes.

Police said Rodriguez is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white and black shirt with checkered shorts and a beanie.

Detectives said the Corolla that Rodriguez was seen driving has the license plate 6HBW445. Officers said the car has oversized aluminum wheels. The vehicle had a spare tire on the front passenger side. Amber Alert signs remain lit across the state. If you see the vehicle call 911.
