After a brief dry spell over the weekend, the rain began pelting the Bay Area overnight on Sunday and into the early morning Monday commute.
NBC Bay Area meteorologists said the rain will be hardest during the morning hours, heavy enough to cause urban and small stream advisories. The weather was a likely factor for the Sig-Alert on Interstate Highway 680 at Vargas Road in Fremont, when two big-rigs jackknifed in separate accidents about 3 a.m. About 80 flights had been canceled at San Francisco International Airport before 6 a.m.
A large tree fell in Alamo.
The rain should subside a bit by 1 p.m.
The rain should taper off into Tuesday, but re-appear on Wednesday. Another round of rain is predicted for Friday.
The two fronts won't be nearly as powerful of the storm that dumped a much as 8 inches of rain in parts of Northern California last week and up to 6 feet of snow in the high elevations of the Sierra Nevada, the National Weather Service said.
