The Church of Antioch helped give Summayah Gray a great start to the new year.
Congregation members decided to celebrate the church's first anniversary by gifting a brand new car to a local family in need. The giveaway was announced in the fall and nominations began pouring in instantly, they said.
It was Gray's name that was drawn after Sunday service.
"I got butterflies, I'm excited, I'm thankful," she said. "I'll be going to work tomorrow at 5 in the morning —warm."
Gray also knew her children would be overcome with gratitude. They walk over a mile to and from school every day, she said, but now, she would be able to give them a ride in their new Ford sedan.
After the morning service, church leaders hosted a party at Black Diamond Middle School, which included a performance by recording artist Leon Timbo.
