Antioch Moves To Permanently Ban Pot Shops

East Bay city says no to medical marijuana

City leaders in the East Bay burg of Antioch are moving to ban outright medical marijuana dispensaries in their town.

The Antioch City Council approved a ban on medical cannabis clubs by a 4-1 vote on Tuesday, according to the Contra Costa Times.

The city had adopted a moratorium last year, but made the move to ban dispensaries permanently on Tuesday. The ban is up for a final vote later in the month.

The ban also extends to "cultivation" and delivery services, the newspaper reported. It is unclear how medical marijuana users in Antioch would access medical marijuana.

Council members who voted for the ban asked that marijuana be distributed via pharmacies. Opponents of the ban pointed to possible tax revenue.
