Appeals Could Stall Out SF's Tech Bus Detente

The tech bus deal could be idling for a long time.

Activists who have appealed San Francisco's effort to charge the shuttle buses run by Google, Apple and other tech companies $1 per stop say that their appeal of the deal could halt any progress for months, if not longer, according to the  San Francisco Examiner.

The buses that ferry tech workers from homes in San Francisco to their jobs in Silicon Valley have become a symbol, protested and blocked -- and now they might be litigated.

Unions and other opponents to the deal -- which some say is helping to drive rents and other prices up in the city -- say that the plan to charge the tech buses $1 per stop for an 18-month pilot program might need a study of its environmental impacts.

And demanding environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act could require a costly and lengthy delay.

On April 1, the Board of Supervisors will vote on whether the tech bus deal requires a review, the newspaper reported.
