April Showers Back Again

April showers returned to much of the Bay Area Tuesday as another strong weather system moved through.

Most of the rain missed the South Bay this time, but rain wrecked the morning commute in the East Bay and North Bay.

The California Highway Patrol issued a wind advisory for all bridges before sunrise.

The storm is also making itself known in Tahoe.

Winds gusting more than 100 mph have left thousands without electricity in Reno and are wreaking havoc on travel throughout the Sierra Nevada.
     
The California Highway Patrol closed part of westbound Interstate 80 north of Lake Tahoe early Tuesday after wind flipped a truck on its side and snow began to fall. As much as a foot of snow was expected in the upper elevations by tomorrow.

About five-thousand homes and businesses were without power at midday in Reno, where wind ripped off shingles, blew a school bus' door off its hinges and uprooted hundreds of trees, including a 70-foot-tall pine.

Reno-Tahoe International Airport recorded sustained winds up to 63 mph, and more than a dozen flights were canceled. One gust topped 125 mph near the Mount Rose Ski Resort between Reno and Tahoe.
