Police Standoff with Armed Suspect Ends After 10 Hours

San Jose police arrested a 51-year-old man who had armed himself inside a home and barricaded himself inside for 10 hours.

Lt. Heather Randol told NBC Bay Area that John Adams surrendered at 4:30 a.m. Friday, following a 6:30 p.m. standoff that began Thursday.

He was taken to the hospital with some sort of medical injuries not related to the arrest, she said. Randol said he would be booked into jail on  "threats and other charges as well."

The standoff had evacuated parts of downtown for several hours.

Police were first called out to North 12th Street between Julian and Washington streets, after getting a call from a woman who reported a man pulled a gun on her inside a home. The woman was able to get out of the home while the man barricaded himself inside, police said.
