Arrest Made in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Vallejo

A Vallejo man was arrested this Friday afternoon following an alleged hit-and-run collision that killed one person and injured another, according to police.

Police were called to the collision on Couch Street just north of Redwood Street just after 3:30 p.m. Friday.

A white Toyota Highlander that was traveling north on Couch Street struck a red Nissan Versa, causing the Nissan to roll, according to police.

The driver of the Toyota, later identified as 23-year-old Jermaine Toliver, was taken into custody after he allegedly tried to flee the scene, police said.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as 20-year-old Juan Ayala of American Canyon, was taken to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The passenger was taken to a local hospital and remains in serious condition, police said.

Toliver was booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit and run and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
