Arrest Made in Vallejo Mayor Arson Case

The private law office of Vallejo Mayor Osby Davis caught fire three weeks ago

Vallejo police announced an arrest in an arson case involving the private law office of Vallejo Mayor Osby Davis.

Police said they arrested Maude Love of Vallejo on Friday in connection with three arson fires which happened in the city over the past several months.

The joint office of Davis and his law partner Michael Thompson was heavily damaged in the early morning hours of Saturday, Sept. 29. Police said Love is a suspect in that fire.

They also say he is suspected of intentionally setting two other fires.

Cooley and Riolo Mortuary was damaged by fire on June 6 and Taylor Chapel was damaged on July 30. Love is a suspect in both of those fires, according to police.

Vallejo police said Love was booked at the Solano County Jail on three counts of arson.

It was not immediately clear if the fire at Davis' office was random or if Davis was targeted. NBC Bay Area found court files that showed Love sued Davis in 2005.

The court records also showed that Love's mental capacity was questioned during a 2002 court hearing. He has a long list of misdeamor crimes out of Vallejo.

Vallejo police called in the FBI to assist in the investigation and said they were treating the fire as a possible case of domestic terrorism. There was no mention of the FBI in the news release that announced the suspect's arrest.
