A's Still Having Jason Giambi Bobblehead Night

It's more than a little curious that the Oakland A's are holding Jason Giambi Bobblehead Night Friday evening when the A's face the Detroit Tigers.

Because Jason Giambi was released by the team on Aug. 7 and is no longer an Oakland A.

The A's are undaunted by this. The've teamed up with the San Jose Mercury News to offer free Jason Giambi bobbleheads at the Oakland-Alamaeda County Coliseum to the first 15,000 fans who arrive Friday night.

15,000 fans? That's optimistic.

Giambi was released months into his second tour of duty with the Athletics, after hitting .183 and carrying a $4 million salary.

Frankly, those 15,000 plastic bobbleheads are more useful to the franchise right now than Jason Giambi is himself.

Joe Kukura is a freelance writer who is also of little or no value to the A's franchise.
