Atherton Is Country's Most-Expensive Place to Live for Second Straight Year

Tech rules everything around us, at least in the real estate market.

Buoyed by the billionaires in the tech industry, Silicon Valley's very own Beverly Hills, Atherton, is home to the country's most-expensive ZIP code for the second year in a row, according to Forbes.

Atherton's 94027 is the only California ZIP code to make Forbes's list of the most-expensive places to live in the country.

It makes sense: Atherton is a short drive away from places like Menlo Park, Mountain View and Cupertino. There are some companies based there you may have heard of (you are in all likelihood reading this right now on one of their many products).

Ken DeLeon, whose real estate firm has sold nearly $500 million worth of real estate so far this year – yes, that's right, a half-billion dollars in housing for tech moguls – says that Atherton is also undergoing a construction boom, with "12,000-square-foot homes" going up like weeds, he told Forbes.

Six of the most expensive ZIP codes are in New York City, and after Atherton, the mega-rich also appear to favor Long Island.
