Attorney Investigates Woodside High Hazing: Report

An investigation is under way into two Woodside high school basketball coaches who may have been a part of recent hazing incidents involving two players who were both beaten, gagged and taped to chairs with lipstick on their faces by their teammates.

Although both junior and varsity coaches have since been dismissed by the Sequoia Union High School District, attorney Christopher Dolan, who represents one of the boy's families, is considering taking legal action against the district, according to the Matier and Ross column in the San Francisco Chronicle.

The hazing incidents were reported after a road trip for a tournament in the town of Newman, in Stanislaus County, shortly after Christmas.

Cell phone photos depicted moments at the student-athletes' hotel, where the two boys were jumped by their teammates, forced into chairs and had their mouths duct taped, Dolan told the newspaper.

The attorney also explained that witnesses reported that a coach told one of the boys he had to learn how to speak Spanish, and then forced him to watch Spanish-language TV for an hour.

Dolan is convinced that the incidents were "orchestrated by and executed at the direction of coach (Doug) Fountain," he told the newspaper.

The superintendent of the Sequoia school district expressed his intolerance for this behavior, and said they are currently working with the players on the situation, according to Matier and Ross.

Dolan is also the attorney for 13-year-old Jahi McMath, who was declared brain dead after suffering complications from sleep apnea surgery at Children's Hospital Oakland.
