Avoid the Presidential Motorcade

President Obama in San Francisco

President Barack Obama is in town for a political fundraiser and with him, comes his security detail and motorcade. Here is what we can tell you about specific closures and what we can surmise about routes.

Scheduled street closures for San Francisco, from Tuesday at 11 a.m. through Wednesday at noon:

  • 4th Street from Market Street to Mission Street
  • Mission Street from 3rd Street to 4th Street

This will affect the F Rail line as well as the following bus lines:

  • 8X /AX/BX Bayshore Express
  • 14 Mission
  • 14 L Mission Limited
  • 14 X Mission Express
  • 30 Stockton
  • 45 Union-Stockton
  • 91 Owl

The SFMTA website has the full breakdown

The president will arrive at SFO at 5:30 p.m.

His motorcade and "rolling closures" will escort him into SF (likely via Hwy 101) for his Barbara Boxer fundraiser events both at the Fairmont and at a private residence in Pac Heights. The closures are for the area around his unspecified hotel stay.

In addition to all of this activity, we have the Giants game tonight presenting more traffic issues for the area around the ballpark. People planning on taking Hwy 101 from SFO to the City for the game should plan on additional delays due to the potential motorcade route. Caltrain is a good option to avoid the road and any closures, and will take you right up to the game.

Looking ahead -- Tomorrow at 10:20 a.m., Obama is scheduled to visit Solyndra in Fremont, just off of Interstate 880, just south of Mission Blvd. We don't know how he'll get across the bay. Will it be the Bay Bridge? San Mateo Bridge? Dumbarton Bridge? The land route? Helicopter?

Stay tuned.
