‘My Woman…#TheInstagator:' Steph Curry Defends His Wife After ‘Keep The Good Stuff Covered Up' Twitter Backlash

Ayesha Curry, wife of Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry, sparked a Twitter meltdown over the weekend when she weighed in about modesty and "classy" fashion.

“Everyone's into barely wearing clothes these days huh? Not my style. I like to keep the good stuff covered up for the one who matters,” Curry tweeted Saturday, getting more than 58,000 retweets and 76,000 “hearts."

Curry’s tweet sparked a number of different reactions — as online debates on beauty standards often tend to do. Curry, who frequently weighs in on everything from healthy recipes to baby fashion on social media, later explained her tweet a little more: “Just looking at the latest fashion trends. I'll take classy over trendy any day of the week. #saturdaynightinsight"

Another tweet followed: “And all I'm doing is sitting here reading a style weekly. You guys definitely entertain me that's for sure.”

When the comments veered from amusing to mean, Curry tweeted: "Regardless of if you like my 'style of clothes' or not (which I don't care) please do not tear women down and degrade them... Not cool peeps.”

While some fans applauded her comments, others blatantly disagreed.

"If you think a woman deserves more or less respect depending on her clothing .., that's internalized misogyny,” a Twitter user wrote, adding: “the way you dress has nothing to do with the way you ‘hold yourself’, nor does it have to do with sexual promiscuity.”

Stephen Curry, fresh from his 22-0 win over the Nets Sunday, showed his support for his wife by posting a photo of her on Instagram in a leather jacket and red highlights: "My woman #TheInstagator."

When CSN's Rosalyn Gold-Onwude asked Stephen Curry about the controversy Sunday, he "said he was surprised people took offense to it. He thought Twitter was for expressing opinions."

"Steph Curry said all Ayesha did was express her style preference. It was not a judgement," Gold-Onwude said in a tweet, adding that Curry told her he and his teammates did have a good laugh at some of the memes circulating online.
