BART closed the 16th Street Mission station in San Francisco Sunday afternoon because a person was talking about explosives and possibly blowing up a train, a BART police lieutenant said Sunday
BART officials said they closed the station at about 3:30 p.m. The station is located at the corner of 16th and Mission streets.
Lt. Paul Kwon said a BART patron called and reported that a person on a Millbrae-bound train had been talking about blowing up a train. BART police held the train at 16th and Mission street station and evacuated the station to conduct a thorough search of the station, but was unable to find anything suspicious.
Police detained a person of interest who has been taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
The station is now open as BART police investigate the incident, Kwon said. Kwon said police closed the station as a precaution and officers and K-9s searched it for explosives.
BART officials said at 4:16 p.m. that the station had reopened and trains are making all stops in San Francisco.
