Bay Area Chefs, Restaurants Named James Beard Awards Finalists

Bay Area chefs and restaurants will compete at the 2015 James Beard Awards, known as the "Oscars of food."

The James Beard Foundation announced the list of this year's finalists Tuesday.

Among the contenders are young San Francisco restaurant The Progress, vying for Best New Restaurant; Jessica Largey from Manresa in Los Gatos, who is in the running for Rising Star Chef of the Year; and Belinda Leong and Michel Suas of B. Patisserie and William Werner of Craftsman and Wolves, who were all nominated as Outstanding Baker. Two San Francisco bars, Trick Dog and Bar Agricole, will square off in the Outstanding Bar Program category, while locals Michael Mina and Cindy Pawlcyn will battle for the Outstanding Restaurateur honor.

Winners will be given James Beard Awards medals in a ceremony on May 4 in Chicago.
