Bay Area Cyclists Practice for 545-Mile Bike Ride to Benefit HIV and AIDS Services

About 400 cyclists are recovering Monday morning after a “Day on the Ride” practice run for the annual AIDS/LifeCycle fundraiser.

The 67-mile ride, which started in Berkeley on Sunday, was a warm-up for cyclists planning to take part in a seven-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles in May.

According to AIDS/LifeCycle, the “Day on the Ride” is an annual event meant to “give newbies and veterans alike the chance to experience a fully-supported sampling of a typical day on AIDS/LifeCycle.”

The goal of the ride is to raise money and awareness for HIV and AIDS services.

“The disease is still in need of help and people are still in need of services to, one, prevent new infections and, two, help people that are already infected with HIV and AIDs,” said Greg Sroda, the Senior Director of AIDS/LifeCycle.

A total of 2,000 riders will head down the coast at the end of May. They expect to raise about $15 million for the cause.
