Bay Area Man Missing From Amtrak Train

Retired SF firefighter has disappeared between Emeryville and Chicago

A retired San Francisco firefighter has been reported missing after he disappeared from an Amtrak train headed to Chicago.

Charles J. Dowd was traveling on a train from Emeryville, but when the train arrived in Chicago on Sept. 14, Amtrak officials found his luggage, cell phone and medication but no sign of him, according to family members.

Family members say they are concerned because Dowd, 69, is potentially disoriented and needs medication.

Dowd was last heard from by cell phone on Sept. 13, and was last seen by a train conductor near Omaha, Nebraska.

The conductor said Dowd appeared disoriented and confused about his whereabouts, thinking that he was on an apartment rather than on a train and that he needed to find the front door.

Dowd is described as a white male with blue eyes and gray hair, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 175 pounds.

Anyone with information on Dowd's location should call Amtrak police at (800) 331-0008, or if you see him, keep him in your sights and call 911 immediately.
