Two Bay Area after-school programs on Tuesday received special praise from Michelle Obama.

"Next Gen" from San Francisco and "Tribal Youth Ambassadors" from Santa Rosa were presented with accolades by the First Lady herself inside the White House during the 2016 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards ceremony, according to an event press release.

The San Francisco-based program gives young people the ability to use video and audio to document their stories while Santa Rosa's after-school group dives into the community to help Native American youth who reside in neighboring regions, according a press release.

The annual tribute ceremony "recognizes and supports outstanding programs that lay new pathways to creativity, expression, and achievement outside of the regular school day," according to a press release.
