Bay Lights Set to Go Dark Unless $12 Million is Raised

The Bay Lights will go dark unless you are prepared to pay.

Don't let the Bay Lights go dark.

The immensely popular "light sculpture" on the Western Span of the Bay Bridge could be doomed, with the off switch set to be flipped by this time next year, according to reports.

But there is a way out of the darkness and into the light.

All you need is cash. Or, rather, all the Bay Lights needs is your cash.

There's a Crowdtilt campaign afoot to raise the $12 million needed to keep the lights on until 2026.

So far, about $184,000 has been raised, with 45 days left to find the money.

The lights -- all 26,000 of them -- need to be reinstalled in order to keep the bridge illuminated for the full decade.

If the cash can't be raised, they'll go dark -- forever -- in March 2015.
