Bear Visits San Luis Obispo

San Luis Obispo police had to use their rarely used animal tracking skills Wednesday night after a wild bear was found walking the streets.

The lost wayward bear was on the small side, but it still weighed about 250 pounds.

The department released dash-cam photos after they spotted the bear roaming around the city near homes and the San Luis Obispo High School campus.

Using those tracking skills, police were able to corner the bear near Marsh and Torro Streets.

After about an hour, police said they were able to chase it away from the downtown area.   It wondered somewhere into the wilderness.

So far, no sightings Thursday.
