Body Found in Bay Memorialized

Family members and friends of a woman found dead inside a suitcase  floating in the San Francisco Bay earlier this month are gathering Sunday near  where her body was found to say a prayer and toss a wreath into the Bay in  memory of her.

Pearla Louis, 52, of San Francisco, was last heard from the  morning of May 15 when she and her daughter had their daily phone call at 6  a.m., San Francisco police Lt. Lyn Tomioka said.

Her family reported Louis missing the afternoon of May 17. Shortly  before 9 a.m. on May 18, a suitcase was found in the water near the  Embarcadero and Folsom Street with Louis' body inside, Tomioka said.

The death is being treated as a homicide, but no arrests have been  made in the case. Police are continuing to investigate the homicide, Tomioka  said Saturday.

The family of Louis spent last weekend canvassing the Embarcadero,  the Tenderloin and the area of Church and Duboce streets, where Louis was  known to spend time, hoping to find someone who knew what happened to her.

Family and friends are returning for a vigil where the  suitcase was found. Family members plan to say a prayer and toss a wreath  into the Bay in memory of Louis.

The event is scheduled for 4 p.m. near the intersection of the  Embarcadero and Folsom Street.
