Body of Lawyer in Andy Lopez Civil Case Found in Bodega Bay

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a body that washed ashore in Northern California has been identified as a missing Santa Rosa attorney.

The Press Democrat reported that officials identified the body found Monday near Bodega Bay as 56-year-old Steve Mitchell.

Mitchell was first reported missing Feb. 13. Officials say they discovered a suicide note and found Mitchell's car parked above Furlong Gulch Beach, north of Bodega Bay. His clothing and personal items were found at the beach.

Sheriff's Sgt. Cecile Foch said Tuesday that the Sonoma County Coroner's Office has scheduled an autopsy to determine Mitchell's cause of death.

Mitchell was a married father of four children and had a career representing local government.
