Boil Order Issued for Treasure Island

Water main break on Friday leads to weekend of headaches on TI

Water officials are urging Treasure Island residents to boil water or visit a site with access to potable water this morning following a water main break that may have led to contaminated water pipes.

The rupture occurred between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, leaving the island without water service overnight, according to water officials.

Yerba Buena Island was not affected.

Water service has since been restored, however tap water is not anticipated to be safe for drinking until Monday morning when repairs and testing are complete, according to water officials.

Water officials are advising those on Treasure Island to boil tap water before drinking as a precautionary measure until repairs are completed.

Tap water on Yerba Buena Island is safe to drink.

Just before 10 a.m., emergency personnel advised that potable water is available at 12th Street and Avenue D on the island. Residents may bring a clean water container that can carry up to 5 gallons.

Those who do not purify tap water before drinking risk a stomach or intestinal illness from contaminated water, according to water officials.
