Boulders Fall, Cars Struck Near Golden Gate Bridge

Boulders  fell on the road near the Golden Gate Bridge Friday morning, damaging several cars along the road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The boulders fell on U.S. Highway 101 at Alexander drive near the Saulsalito offramp ramp just before 5 a.m., prompting a SigAlert, which was lifted by 7 a.m. At least one SUV was struck by the falling rocks. An ambulance was called to the scene.

The NBC Bay Area chopper flew over the scene to show a lot of traffic backup heading south from the Waldo Tunnel. Caltrans crews are removing the boulders with specialized equipment.
