Buried Alive: Danville Teen Injured When Sand Tunnel Collapses

Day of fun at the beach turns dangerous.

A Danville teen is in the hospital Monday after a tunnel he was digging with a friend collapsed, burying him alive and almost killing him.

The 17-year-old was at Sunset State Beach on Saturday with a group of about 50 teens and eight adults from the Creekside Community Church according to the San Jose Mercury News.

He and a friend were apparently digging a tunnel about six feet deep when it collapsed. He was underground, in the collapsed tunnel, for several minutes before rescuers could get to him.

The teen is in critical condition at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Doctors have sedated him while they try to clean the sand out of his system.

A good samaritan explains the frantic rescue to save the boys.
