Electronic Billboards Could Grace Highway 101 in Burlingame

Burlingame set to decide if electronic signs should be explored.

Electronic billboards want in on the sign game in Burlingame.

And city officials in the highway-straddling town might allow it.

City leaders in the Peninsula city could give the green light to looking at light-up signs along the Highway 101 corridor as early as Monday night, according to the San Mateo County Journal.

Purveyors of "electronic media signs" have been trying to get signs built for "several years," the newspaper reported.

A three-month study, "to evaluate installing such signs along the freeway," is up for approval at a city council meeting this evening, the newspaper reported.

Among the considerations are the economic bottom line to Burlingame, and if public or private property turns out to the best place to stick an electronic, light-up sign.

The meeting kicks off at 7 p.m.
