Burned Body Found off Highway in San Jose

A body was discovered burned off a San Jose highway Tuesday night, and San Jose fire officials say the victim was likely a homeless person based on a mattress and a tent found nearby.

Capt. Reggie Williams said the fire was reported off the Cottle Road onramp to northbound Highway 85 about 9 p.m.

At this point, Williams said he can't determine if the fire was accidentally set. The body is too burned to determine a gender.

San Jose Fire Capt. Reggie Williams told AP that crews were putting out the fire to some trees and brush near an onramp to northbound Highway 85 when they discovered the body.

Authorities say that the victim may have been camping in the area.  Williams added that investigators are now trying to determine whether the fire started accidentally
