Burning Body Discovered on Rockridge Street

Police said body could have been dumped on street and set on fire after being killed elsewhere.

A disturbing pre-dawn discovery in a normally quiet Oakland neighborhood has shocked residents.

People who live on the 5800 block of Ivanhoe Road, near Rockridge, were awakened by something burning in the middle of the street.

Many of them called 911 after they discovered it was a human body that was on fire.

Oakland police said calls came in at 4:39 a.m.

Both police and fire responded, but declared the person dead at the scene.  Officers said the victim not only suffered burns, but showed signs of other trauma.

Police have not identified the person, but say she was female.

Homicide investigators were called in. Police are treating the case as a homicide. The Alameda County Coroner's Bureau will conduct an autopsy in an attempt to determine the cause of death.

 The Oakland Police are asking anyone with information to please call the Oakland Police Homicide Section at (510)238-3821. Crime stoppers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
