Campbell Police Investigate Attempted Child Abduction

Campbell police are investigating an attempted child abduction Saturday morning.

Officers responded to a report of the attempted kidnapping near the intersection of Maysun Court and Harriet Avenue at around 10 a.m., a police spokesman said. The victim is a pre-teen girl who was walking her dog in the neighborhood when a man pulled up in a car to ask her for directions, according to police.

The man then got out of the car and continued to ask for directions, police said. The girl told police he then grabbed her in a "bear hug." She said she was able to fight back and scream, causing the man to drive away.

A witness reported hearing the victim scream and saw the man drive northbound on Harriet, police said.

Before the man got out of the car, police said he drove past the victim and made a U-turn. He then drove back to her and slowed down next to her. Police also said it was alarming the incident happened in broad daylight in a nice area.

The suspect is described as an Asian or Hispanic man in his mid-30s, about 5 feet 7 inches talk, and having a medium build. Police said he was wearing a black and white beanie, with a tan or brown long, buttoned-up coat. The coat had fur on the cuffs.

Police said the suspect's car is an older model 4-door sedan, possibly silver.

Police have released video of the suspect.
