Cannabis Shop Owner Aims for Politics

A Bay Area man is taking his pot business on the road as he sets his sights on higher office.

Matt Lucero and eight of his employees are now delivering medical cannabis to patients' homes after his stores in Sunnyvale and Mountain View were forced to close. He delivers the medicine for free.

A judge sided with the Mountain View City Council and shut his down his establishment, Buddy's Patient Cannabis Collective, but the turn of events inspired Lucero -- not just to turn his business into a delivery service, but also to get into politics.

Lucero's name will be on the November ballot for Mountain View City Council. He decided to run for the seat after realizing, "how desperate Mountain View residents are for a voice on that city council."

Although he has his sights set on politics, the former tech corporate attorney says he's not giving up on the medical marijuana business. He's looking for properties in San Jose where he can open a dispensary.

Lucero's former collective in Mountain View will now be his campaign headquarters.

"If they thought I was a problem from the other side of the podium," Lucero told the Mountain View Voice, "wait until they see me sitting next to them."
