An Oakland mother got the scare of her life overnight when someone stole her van with her son inside.
Oakland police said a carjacker approached the woman at a gas station near 42nd and Foothill Boulevard and ordered her out of her vehicle.
Police said the carjacker took off with her son in the back seat.
A few frantic minutes later, there was a report of a child found under a tree a few blocks away.
A relative told NBC Bay Area that the carjackers had put their own jackets on the little boy in order to keep him warm.
The little boy was unharmed and quickly reunited with his parents.
Oakland police were still looking for the thieves who took the 2002 Honda van.
