Celebrate at Downtown Ice in San Jose Tonight

After a rough day of Black Friday shopping, the folks at Downtown Ice of San Jose are hoping you have enough energy to strap on some skates, slip on some gloves and glide around the South Bay's largest outdoor ice rink.

On Friday, starting about 5:15 p.m., former Olympic skater Kristi Yamaguchi will be greeting fans, and NBC Bay Area's Marla Tellez will be emceeing a ceremony, also to be visited by Mayor Chuck Reed and other dignitaries. After the speeches, the community is invited to head over to the Christmas in the Park tree lighting ceremony.

The rink formally opened last week, and  a couple named "Chris and Kate" got engaged on the ice on Nov. 16. To learn more about the icy proposal - and warm embrace that followed- click here to see photos and the story.

The rink is located at the Circle of Palms between the Fairmont Hotel and the San Jose Museum of Art, 120 S. Market Street.
