Census Counts 2010 a Success

Local census officials say they should be able to wrap up the San Francisco Bay area count this week.

The Bay Area's response to the national head count has been for the most part above average.

Marin and Santa Clara counties have the best census response in the Bay Area to date, with 75 percent of households participating.

Seven counties in the Bay Area beat the state overall rate of 71 percent. Solano County tied the state rate and San Francisco lagged behind at 69 percent.

Sonny Le, a regional media specialist for the U.S. Census Bureau, said some counties do better at motivating their public than others. How financially strapped a city or county is can also affect its outreach efforts.
