Chicken Truck Wrecks, Halts Traffic

More than 2,500 birds were being hauled

A jack-knifed chicken truck is slowing traffic and filling chicken-rescue farms near Vacaville.

More than 2,500 chickens were being hauled down I-80 when the truck lost control, jack-knifed and spilled its haul, killing almost all the birds.

The few surviving chickens were taken to a nearby rescue farm.

The two right lanes of I-80 near Lagoon Road are still closed, but California Highway Patrol reports all lanes should be open by around 8 a.m.

"At this point, there are quite a few dead chickens," Officer Mark Johnston told SFGate.com.
