Bay Area Chihuahuas Take Flight

Operation Chihuahua is underway. A dozen little dogs are flying to New York City today to find new homes.

They boarded a Virgin America flight just before 7 a.m. Their final destination is the Manhattan ASPCA, where they will wait for their new owners to pick them up. The dogs will fly in the main cabin, so don't worry about them in the cargo hold.

This is the third time San Francisco has teamed up with Virgin America to fly chihuahuas east. Last time, all of the little dogs found new homes within a matter of hours. The same thing is expected to happen this time around.

San Francisco animal care and control says it still has about 20 chihuahuas in its shelter for the people here that are looking to adopt.
