Young Girl and Man Shot, Wounded in Oakland

A young girl is in critical condition and a man is in stable condition Saturday after being wounded in a shooting in East Oakland on Friday night, according to police.

Both victims were shot around 6:25 p.m. in the 1800 block of 66th Avenue, police said.

The girl and the man, in his 40s or 50s, were found suffering from gunshot wounds and taken to hospitals for treatment. A stray bullet hit the girl in the neck.

Oakland police Capt. Steven Tull said the man appears to have been the intended target in the shooting.

According to the Oakland Tribune, she was playing on her front porch with her brother when two men got out of a car. Officers said that is when they fired at another man nearby.

The girl's 9th birthday is tomorrow and she remains in the hospital fighting for her life. Her brother was not hit.

No arrests have been made and an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
