Police recovered a loaded gun this afternoon in Fairfield after a citizen reported seeing a shooting suspect searching some bushes near the site of a shooting.

Police received several calls at 3:20 p.m. reporting gunshots near Santa Clara Street and East Pacific Avenue.

Citizens said they saw a man firing a gun and fleeing the scene in a silver sedan, police said. Three other male subjects were in the car.

When officers arrived, they found bullet casings in the intersection but no victims or subjects, according to police.

At about 4:20 p.m. a citizen called police to say one of the four subjects returned and was searching the bushes near the shooting site, police said. The subject left the area before the citizen called police.

Officers responded and found a loaded gun in the bushes where the subject was searching for something.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to call the Fairfield Police Department's Major Crimes Unit at (707) 428-7600 or the 24-hour tip line at (707) 428-7345 or Crime Stoppers at (707) 644-7867. Callers can be anonymous.
