Community Reeling After Theater Shooting

Five people were shot Sunday night in front of the Regal Cinemas around 9:30.

There is heavy police presence in Oakland’s Jack London Square Monday night.

That didn’t go unnoticed by people who live in this city.

"My thoughts were I’m glad I didn’t go to the movies last night to be honest. I was going to go earlier in the day maybe it makes me a little scared to go out at night," said Nicole Parrish of Oakland.

Five people were shot Sunday night in front of the Regal Cinemas around 9:30.

Police say the shooting happened following an argument outside between two groups of young people.

Four victims are in stable condition and recovering. A 15 year old was shot in the stomach twice and had to undergo extensive surgery.

"I just had a bad feeling about that many young people it just didn’t look right," said Erin Tolva of Oakland.

Marilyn Balderas is the manager of a Peruvian restaurant around the corner from the movie theatre on Broadway. She hopes this shooting and the deadly shooting last year across the street won’t affect business.

" I hope that people will understand that Oakland is an urban city. Things like this are going to happen on occasion. It doesn’t mean that you can walk to Jack London Square and think you’re going to get shot because that’s not the way it is," said Balderas.

"Well I’m not going to give up on Oakland…I have faith," she added.
