Concord Chiropractor Charged With Sexual Battery Posts Bail, Leaves Jail

A well-known East Bay chiropractor, arrested last week on a sexual battery charge, is out of jail Monday after posting $50,000 bail.

A female patient told police that Steven Moon of Optimized Chiropractic, Inc. touched her inappropriately during a March 9 massage at his Concord office.

"Dr. Moon pulled the gown down and touched her breast," said Corporal Christopher Blakely with the Concord Police Department.

Authorities said a long-time patient in her thirties went to Moon for a deep tissue massage — treatment that the doctor had suggested on her previous visit.

Instead, detectives say the chiropracter, who is believed to have more than 30 years of experience, groped her.

"He touched her buttocks and touched her body, and, at one point, he told her to turn around so he could massage the front of her body," Blakely said.

The 65-year-old is splashed across Facebook, on commercials and also on Yelp, where he has received several positive reviews.

Chris Mason of Concord said Moon is "very well known."

"His kids knew my kids," he said.

Moon, who was taken into custody around 4 p.m. Friday, stayed behind door the doors of his Clayton home Monday. No one answered the phone or door at his office to address the allegations.

"You violated the patient's rights," said Saul Calderon, a patient care technician. "It doesn't matter where you work."

Investigators are concerned there may be more victims.

Moon is scheduled to face a judge in the coming week.
