Cops Nab Suspected Serial Sexter

Hayward man may have targeted girls in other states

A bizarre serial "sexter" harrassed Northern California girls as young as 14, leaving them scared and in tears, police say.

Steven Sharp, 30, was arrested in his Hayward home Thursday. Police say he used his cell phone to stalk and beg for sex from young women in Amador County.

An officer posing as a 13-year-old girl received 100 phone calls and 2,000 text messages from Sharp in just one week, according to a Sacramento-area news station.

Police don't know how he got their numbers and say the number of victims is growing. They are now working with cops in other counties and states to determine if there are other victims.

Sharp was booked into Alameda County Jail and will be taken to Amador County to face charges. He could face up to four years in prison.
